So many of our characters’ actions tonight were influenced by both fear and love—sometimes even because of a fear of love. Dexter is afraid he might love Hannah. Deb is afraid of her love for Dexter. Joey Quinn is afraid of what the Koshkas will make him do since they own the woman he loves. And Isaak Sirko? He’s fearful of his imminent death, but not so afraid of love. When Isaak learned that the Koshkas sent two experienced hitmen to kill him, he approached Dexter with an offer to help him kill them in exchange for calling off their blood feud. Dexter initially declined, but agreed once Sirko kidnapped Hannah to increase his leverage. And they each held true to their side of the bargain. Dexter put his serial-killing skills to good use and quickly took out the first hitman at a rifle range.
Dexter arrives at the crime scene to find a burned up car with a body in it. The arson inspector thinks it is a suicide.Later, when another victim is found, Dexter and the arson investigator come up with a theory that this was a murder, not a suicide.
LaGuerta meets up with former police Captain Tom Matthews at a boat dock. She explains that she thinks the Bay Harbor Butcher is still alive and well and living in Miami. She tells him her theory then shows him the list of people that are cops who have boats and are therefore suspects – including him. When he explains to her that he couldn’t be the guy because of a hernia surgery he had which makes it impossible for him to lift heavy things she asks for his help.
At the hostage house, Hannah serves up a special recipe with tomatoes. When the guy eats one he starts choking. She hits him over the head with a vase and fights him. As they scuffle she pulls away from him, grabs a lamp and hits him in the head with it, killing him, but he stabbed her in the stomach and she passes out before she can get to a phone. In the end she ends up escaping thanks to Deb.
At the boat, Dexter and Isaak throw the second hitman’s body overboard. George, shortly after Caffrey is killed, shows up on the boat and kills Isaak himself. Isaak knows the shot is fatal and he asks for the one thing that Dexter can give him that no one else can: a chance to rest in peace alongside his lover, Viktor.
